Frequently asked questions

How do I pick the right comeback?
Each insult has one correct comeback that's a clever retort. Read through the options and type the one that best responds to the insult. On harder difficulties you get more options and less time, so quick reading is essential.
Who are the different pirates?
Scallywag Pete (beginner/easy) gives you plenty of time and 3 options. Captain Redbeard (medium) has 16 seconds and 3 options. Admiral Blackheart (hard) gives only 10 seconds with 4 options.
Does this improve typing or reading more?
Both! Swordfight uniquely trains the reading-to-typing pipeline. You practice scanning text quickly, making decisions, and executing through typing — which mirrors real-world tasks like email and messaging.
